To leverage National Tree Day on Sunday 30th July, and School Tree Day on Friday 28th July, ENPS Environmental Club were invited by Mens Shed to help plant trees. The Mens Shed had been working with local Council to attain a grant for the purchase of 1000 native trees and equipment such as stake and guards. 25 ENPS students, across years 1-6 spent almost 2 hours planting trees along the walking path between the river and the dog park and planted 260 native trees. We were joined by a team from Mens Shed, Councillor Natalie Duffy and two parent helpers, who worked brilliantly with the students whilst enjoying the beautiful autumn day. The smiles on everyone’s faces at the end of the session spoke volumes of how much fun the students had, along with the pride that they had in being able to make a difference to the local area. Plans are being put in place to join the Men's Shed to help regularly water and care for these plants. Thank you Liz Cane.
Reflections: Many thanks to the mens Shed team for your organisation of yesterday’s tree planting event.
When we arrived, I could see the hours of organisation that had gone into making the event possible. For those who supported you in getting the trees and equipment to the location and especially for the hours of digging holes in preparation for the students to plant the seedlings, please pass on our thanks. We all had a fabulous time, the students were very excited about what they were able to achieve, and I was very proud of their tireless efforts to get the task done. Discussions on the way back to school about how they were ‘able to make a difference’ was very heart warming. The parents were also very appreciative of being given the opportunity to help with such an important local project and wanted to pass on their thanks to you all.
